 Year: 0
 Location: Shaw
( U & 11th )

This memorial honors the hundreds of thousands of African-Americans who lost their lives fighting during the American Civil War. It is an unusual "in the round" design. Pictured here is the side which faces U Street, depicting African-American infantry poised for battle. The other side of the statue depicts an African-American family with a soldier. The memorial also includes a wall that bears the names of the African-Americans who died.
