This small statue of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt was recently added to the entrance hallway of Washington National Cathedral. Roosevelt was the niece of President Theodore Roosevelt and wife of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. A noted figure in her own right, she worked tirelessly to improve social conditions in the United States and championed the rights of minorities in America. She also served as the first chairwoman of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights and actively oversaw meetings to develop the UN Charter of Human Rights.
