Subject: Jefferson Pier Year: 0 Sculptor: Unknown Location: The Mall ( Constitution Avenue & 16th Street ) This small marker, located slightly west and north of the Washington Monument, marks the location of the Jefferson Pier. Prior to Hains's creation of Potomac Park in the 1880s, the Potomac River stretched much further inland than it does today and boats bringing goods and visitors to Washington could come this far into the city to drop off their cargo.
