Subject: Samuel Gompers Year: 1933 Sculptor: Robert Aitken Location: Downtown ( Massachusetts Ave. & 10th ) Samuel Gompers (1850-1924) was born in London, England and emigrated to the United States in 1863. He trained as a cigar maker and joined the Cigarmaker's International Union. He became active in union politics and the labor movement.
