Statue / monument of Vaquero in Washington DC by Sculptor Luis Jimenez  Subject:  Vaquero
 Year: 0
 Sculptor: Luis Jimenez
 Location: Gallery Place
( G Street & 7th )

This statue was commissioned by the National Museum of American Art. The artist is from New Mexico. On receiving the commission, Jimenez travelled to DC to see what other types of statues already existed in the city. He found many equestrian statues and noted that some horses had all four hooves on the ground, some had one hoof in the air, and some had two hooves in the air. Inspired by a whimsical notion, Jimenez decided to make his statue feature a horse with its rear hooves in the air.
